Electivire.
# 466.
Type: Electric.
Ability: Motor drive.
Locations: Evolve Electabuzz via Electrizer (Diamond, Pearl)
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Electivire, the Thunderbolt Pokémon.
Electivire is one nice addition to our Pokémon collection. It is not that fast and its defenses aren’t good either. But it has a pretty good Attack and a very interesting move pool (including the elemental punches).
Motor drive gives us more reasons to play with Electivire. Speed goes up if an electric attack hits. Effective if you switch predicting electric attacks or hitting your own Pokémon in doubles, but very predictable as well.
Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…
Electivire.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack), Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).
Equip: Salac berry.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Thunder punch
- Ice punch
- Fire punch / Cross chop / Brick break
- Earthquake / Cross chop / Brick break
I like the 3 elemental punches and Cross chop, but there you have a couple more options just in case you don’t like what you see. It is the standard physical sweeper, try t predict electric attacks so you can have some extra speed, Salac berry does the same thing.
Electivire.
Nature: Hasty (+ Speed, - Defense), Naive (+ Speed, - Special defense).
Equip: Life orb.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Special attack, 4 Speed.
- Thunderbolt
- Ice punch
- Earthquake / HP grass
- Cross chop / HP grass
This one is a little bit faster and with special attacks just in case you find some Skarmory on the way. Sweep as much as you can.
Electivire.
Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Thunder punch
- Ice punch / Fire punch / Cross chop
- Earthquake
- Meditate
Electivire doesn’t learn Swords dance but it does learn Meditate. So use it as much as you can and then sweep. The second move is up to you depending on your needs.
When should I use this Pokémon?
The standard physical sweeper is good if you can give it some speed. It is somehow a predictable set, so maybe the mixed sweeper will do better in competitive battles.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Skarmory, Swampert and Rhyperior are some major problems for Electivire. HP grass and thunderbolt deal OK with them but its chances aren’t good against these Pokémon.
Bottom line:
Very interesting Pokémon if you decide to try the last couple combinations. Not as predictable and capable of taking a few hits.
